{"created":"2023-06-19T11:40:53.314998+00:00","id":1145,"links":{},"metadata":{"_buckets":{"deposit":"271598f7-236b-4163-ae0a-a87e8e048476"},"_deposit":{"created_by":14,"id":"1145","owners":[14],"pid":{"revision_id":0,"type":"depid","value":"1145"},"status":"published"},"_oai":{"id":"oai:setsunan.repo.nii.ac.jp:00001145","sets":["1:11:233:185"]},"author_link":["1965"],"item_10002_biblio_info_7":{"attribute_name":"書誌情報","attribute_value_mlt":[{"bibliographicIssueDates":{"bibliographicIssueDate":"2019-01","bibliographicIssueDateType":"Issued"},"bibliographicIssueNumber":"26","bibliographicPageEnd":"70","bibliographicPageStart":"45","bibliographic_titles":[{"bibliographic_title":"摂大人文科学"}]}]},"item_10002_description_5":{"attribute_name":"抄録","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_description":"20世紀初頭のハワイ日本人移民社会では、酒席で客をもてなす芸妓（あるいは芸者）と呼ばれる女性たちがかなり存在し、日本語新聞の社会面を日々にぎわせていた。本論文は、ホノルル芸妓組合の活動に関する新聞記事を分析し、芸妓が現地の日本人社会やハワイ社会でどのような存在だったのか、検討する。契約労動の時代が終わり、ハワイの日本人社会がしだいに安定すると、耕地から都市部に移り住む日本人が増え、ホノルルでは日本人小規模ビジネスが成長し、それとともに料理屋や芸妓の数が増加した。芸妓として働く女性たちは、組合化を通じて自らの労働環境の整備・向上を図り、職業的自律性を高めていくなかで、当時の日本人女性としてはめずらしく高い収入を得ることができた。しかし同時に、日本人移民の結婚・定住化が進むにつれ、芸妓は家庭にとっての脅威として問題視されるようになり、1920 年に禁酒法が施行されると、芸妓と組合の活動は衰退した。\nNotes on Activities of the Honolulu Geisha Union, 1900-1920\nIn the early twentieth century, a fair number of Japanese women were working as the Geisha in Honolulu’s Japanese community, servicing male customers at dinner tables.This article examines the activities of the Honolulu Geisha Union and the discourse on the Geisha by drawing upon articles published in two Japanese-language newspapers,Hawai Hochi and Nippu Jiji. It argues that the Honolulu Gisha Union was a key institution in advancing the welfare of its members by serving as the mediator between the Geisha and restaurants and disciplining the behavior of its members. The Geisha work provided the women a rare opportunity to earn high wages, but their presence came to be considered a threat to immigrant families as increasing numbers of Japanese immigrants had families and began to settle in Hawaii.
