Additionally, the contents of ‘coping with fatigue’ were classified into ten categories, such as ‘It will not get better without rehabilitation’. The patients felt physically and mentally drained by the change of environment and rehabilitation, disgust and pain during recuperation, and discomfort and helplessness during excretion. We also found that they proactively coped with the fatigue using various coping strategies, including not only problem-solving strategies, but also emotion-centred ones.
